Golf Grip Pressure
We’ve all been told about proper grip pressure – Sayings such as “holding a bird” or “squeezing a tube of toothpaste” provide great visuals, but are very difficult to adapt to actually holding your golf club.
Using your Grip Solid® to feel proper pressure is simple and effective.
Lesson One – Gripping Your Club
- Wearing your Grip Solid®, stand and hold any golf club as you normally would when setting up for a full swing.
- Slowly tighten your left hand around the grip and pay attention to the FLEX•BAR in the palm of your hand. As your hand tightens you will feel the FLEX•BAR compress.
- Now slowly relax your left hand until you no longer feel the FLEX•BAR. At this point you are gripping the club with the right amount of pressure.
- Repeat this a number of times. Each time focus on the point at which you no longer feel the FLEX•BAR compress.
Gripping your club with proper pressure at address is important – Maintaining it throughout your swing is essential
Lesson Two – Swinging Your Club
- Wearing your Grip Solid®, stand and hold any golf club as you normally would when setting up for a full swing.
- Without a golf ball, take a full practice swing at ¼ the speed of your normal swing.
- Focus on the FLEX•BAR in the palm of your hand throughout your entire swing. Pay close attention at the:
- Top of your backswing
- Start of your downswing
- Bottom of your swing
- Follow through
- If you feel the FLEX•BAR compress in your palm you are changing your grip pressure and squeezing too tightly.
- Repeat your swing, easing up with your hands until you no longer feel the FLEX•BAR at any point during your swing.
- Continue taking full swings while gradually increasing your swing speed.
